Can anyone please offer advice on welding a lug or tab to a muffler/silencer that can reach 1200 degree F under operating conditions? Thanks in advance.

You need to know the materials of construction. Once this is known, a filler metal/welding process can be selected to join the lug or tab. By the way, what is the function of the lug or tab????

Silencers are usually rather thin, and need a thicker doubler under any lug or tab to spread out the load.

Metenger & MikeHalloran thanks for your replies.

The silencer is sch 10. The lug/tag serves as sliding/movement stop and also for futureremoval. I am also interested in how does the high operating temperature affect the lug/tab properties under service conditions.

g1366g;
What is the silencer material composition (ferritic stainless steel?), besides the thickness?

Use E308 filler metal to join the lug/tab (of 304 material)to a doubler plate (304 material) that is fillet welded to the silencer base material.
