Hi all.

I have to connect an Electrical tray to Building steel using a slotted channel.
This slotted channel is to be welded to Building steel using simple weldng rods.
if width of slotted channel is 5cm and entire this thickness can be welded.

My question is how much Newtons,such a simple joint can carry safely.

Any pointers to my unrefined question is appreciated.I want only rough answer,not
very accurate answer considering all factors.

We need to know the size of the weld and confirmation of weld type ie fillet weld,butt weld etc

your question cannot be answered as written - it makes no sense as written, nor is it "safe" nor practical for ANYONE to answer such a question (to give advice) on structural welding unknown items that are poorly described with no defined loads, no defined supports - the "what am i welding to - with no defined welding rods nor welding standards nor supports ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.

You are supposedly an engineer by virtue of logging on here to the forum and requesting an engineering audience answer your question. Act like it and define your problem so you can ask your question! Act like an engineer and sketch your specific environment: define the loads, define the geometry, define the steel you are thinking of attaching the "uni-strut-like" slotted channel on to!
 
You have no pipeline, fluid mechanics, or piping related question here, so perhaps you should post in the structural, or welding forum.
