I have HSS carbon steel beams supporting stainless steel checkered plate as part of a platform. Can these two items be effectively welded? Is cathodic action a significant concern?

Thanks for some guidance,

engphila

Yes, they can be welded using 309 filler metal. I would not worry about galvanic corrosion unless this component was immersed in water or remained in a continuously moist environment.

Just a clarification to my post above, engphila did not specify the grade of stainless (I presumed it was an austenitic grade like 3XX).
