We go by the AWS welding code for concrete reinforcing steel. The procedure that replicates the joint detail typically has to be qualified by testing. Once the procedure is tested and accepted, the welder is tested using the qualified procedure. The joint detail used is a standard detail shown in the welding code, if applicable, or it replicates the actual joint detail that will be used in production.
