I have a small plate that is currently being welded onto a sheet metal part to act as a recessed face for a control panel to sit so it is flush with the sheet metal part. The part is called out to use a spot weld on the drawing, but a tack weld could be used as well and it would not effect FFF...How would you call out that weld to show either option, or would you make it a drawing note?

Tack weld isn't a specific type of weld - it refers to temporary partial welds to hold pieces in place for fully welding.

AWS 2.4 is probably your friend assuming US based.

Extracts/summaries are available for free online.

In terms of giving options, I think probably a note.

Posting guidelines faq731-376 (probably not aimed specifically at you)
What is Engineering anyway: faq1088-1484
