Welding an L Shape to a Plate 3

I'm looking for a link to a formula that can be used to determine the section properties of a fillet weld all around an angle (L shape) cut at a slight bevel. Can anyone provide this formula? I have a large angle with unequal legs, with a plate, to be welded on the end at a slight angle to the strong axis. Rather than do a CJP weld, I want to use a fillet weld. The full strength isn't necessary. Thanks...

S_top = [4bd + d2]/6

S_bottom = [d2(4b + d)] / [6 (2b + d)]

b is the weld width, d is the height.

Dik just uploaded a spreadsheet to Github (consider it a rough work in progress): Link

unlike Alex's spreadsheet and Blodgett's approach this sheet uses the general bending stress formulas which captures the stress variation for unsymmetric bending cases, like your L shape will experience.

Thanks gentlemen/ladies... something to chew on for a bit... I'll look at Celt83's sheet as well as Alex's one... about the only sheet of Alex's is the floor plate one that I've used dozens of times. Again, thanks.

@Celt83:
Can you give me a hint about the data entry for this. The weld group chart shows an L shape with what appears are different leg thicknesses. I assume that this represents the perimeter of the angle which is fillet welded. Is this correct. It looks like an incredible sheet.

I checked Alex's sheets and couldn't find one that accommodates the perimeter of the angle.

It should be right there. On the right side of the sheet, he has various input helpers, with various shape geometry shortcuts.

I've used this sheet a lot. Either way, the weld comes out pretty conservative.

Thanks Dr... which sheet is that... I'm missing it and I thought I had all of Alex's sheets...

dik:

The chart scaling is off.

cells with an orange highlight are input cells

Top Left you input the applied loads, load location relative to (0,0,0), and if the load is an ultimate load

Below the load input is the weld segment input where, xi and yi are the weld segment start point and xj and yj are the weld segment end points.

Dr... it's OK just needed a copy that was less than a couple of decades old... thanks.

Celt83: Just had a chance to go over your spreadsheet... extremley good and a lot of work. Thank you very much...

Celt83... just finished up an SMath program... do you have a real name for attribution? or would you prefer to be left off? When I finish it up, I'll post it here.

Thanks... didn't know... SMath sheet works well and have to check it with a couple of other patterns... Based on your data...
