Weld Maps

Hoping someone can help me with a question concerning weld maps. Is anyone aware of any standard/reference that details the requirements of what information must be presented in a weld map?

I assume that you are referring to a weld map of piping welds in lieu of each welder stamping his id on the pipe. in the past ,I normally take a copy of the construction isometric and use a shape of some sort ( I prefer a hexagon)and put the following information in the shape:

Field Weld -#( FW-#) Welder's Id(his normal stamp) DATE
and whether or not the weld was X-rayed ( use RT abbrev.)This has been acceptable to all the clients I have worked for and provides sufficient data in my opinion.

The same system could be suited to a pressure vessel as well.

Here is a typical Weld Map drawing I usually submit, with the addition of field fabricate information, Material, Dimensions, Pipe Cutting Lengths, Heat numbers, plus Piping Codes and the like.
If you want just Weld Map info only just omit all other information. if you require the above please submit your email address.

Thank you both for your input. Our subcontractor is supplying a weld map containing information presented by apiguy, however this map is a pencil sketch that is not to scale and contains no information about the physical location of any given weld. The map provides a relative location of each weld, but nothing that will help me expeditiously locate a given weld or welds should a problem arise, for instance locating other welds performed by a given welder. Doesn't sound like there are any standards out there per se, but I would like to take a look at the drawing referenced by Ace of the Base. My e-mail is chris.bubash@dplinc.com. Thanks again.

Chris,

I would ask the contractor to make their weld maps on the construction iso. All of the welds should be identified there. It would make everyone's job easier. If there are no construction drawings, I would recommend each welder place his stamp on the pipe next to the weld and have the piping contractor supply "as built" drawings giving the locations of each welders' weld. This is a requirement of ASME B31.3.
