Hello,

A water sample from the drain of a Crude Oil storage Tank was analysed with the below-mentioned results.

To what extent do you think it is being corrosive?

PH: 8.6
Conductivity: 4395 US/cm
Salinity: 2747 mg NaCl/L
TDS: 2666 mg/l
Chlorides: 1665 mg/l
Sodium: 1081 mg/l
T. hardness: 95 FD
Calcium: 260 mg/l
Magnesium: 72 mg/l
Carbonate: Traces
Bicarbonate: 1281
Sulphate: 0.09 mg/l
Nitrate: 8.0 mg/l
Iron: 1.23 mg/l
SRB: Nil

Have you bothered to calculate an LSI (or whatever index you use)?

The water is supersaturated with respect to calcium carbonate and one would expect some scaling.

The water will be corrosive because of the high levels of sodium and chloride. The iron level indicates a corrosion product.
