Hello all,
We have to select water reactive bulkhead seal for the passenger boat. We are engine dealer but customer is insisting to provide solution for the bulkhead seal. Customer has shaft running from engine to stern drive that is 66'' long. In between the stern drive and engine they will have chamber, the hole of the chamber from which shaft will pass will have water reactive seals.
Does anyone in the group has experience calculating dynamic radial clearance required between shaft and lip of bulkhead seal?

Thanks

That will be provided by your seal supplier. There are many types of bulkhead seals and each will have unique installation requirements.

I strongly advise against building your seal before final engine alignment. Do your engine alignment and bring a line boring outfit on to machine the bulkhead AFTER final engine alignment. Plan ahead, install thick plates in the bulkheads to give material to machine into. This is the best way to install such seal systems.

You could use pourable chocking to align your seal after the fact but I think you'll find this route considerably more expensive than PLANNING to use the machine in place route.
