Waste Water and Water Treatment In the same facility? 2

Hello,

A developer has proposed a WWTP and WTP to be located in the same facility within a ~250 unit subdivision which will be operated by the local government upon proof of operation. I was wondering what potential issues could arise with this design and if anyone has experience with this type of facility. We have concerns about water needs for the community and requirements for future expansion as it is located in an area with difficult topography, as well as contamination. If anyone could provide advice that would be very much appreciated.

Whilst it is not uncommon to have water and wastewater facilities on adjoining land there are many good reasons why they are not built as the one facility.
The biggest single risk is cross contamination. Tank overflows , pipe bursts, inadvertent cross connections, inadequate disinfection of tools , equipment facilities clothes and people are just a few issues that must be considered.

Another issue is public perception. Even if everything was managed absolutely perfectly it will always be difficult to convince the public of that.

Seperate facilities is a must.
