Warping constant for RHS sections

Hi,

Could you please let me know, how to calculate the "Warping constant" for RHS sections?

RHS sections don't warp meaningfully so it's generally a non issue.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

I understand that the RHS do not warp and we can ignore the torsion due to warping. In such case, it would be enough to consider only the St.Venant torsion for RHS.

Also is it necessary to verify the combined bending and torsion too?

Only the combined shear stress that results from torsion + flexural shear.

If you are designing according to AISC 360-10 (or AISC 360-05) and the required torsional strength is more than 20 percent of the available torsional strength, then interaction between bending, torsion, shear, and axial force must be checked per Chapter H3.2 (see equation H3-6).

AISC Design Guide 9 gives good info on this.
