Wall reactions

Hey all,

I'm modeling a slab on walls and I'm wondering if there is a way I can pull reactions from the supports that I've added (my piles) below my walls. When I go to turn on reactions, it seems that SAFE is giving a reaction at each point of the wall mesh, and not just at the supports that I have drawn. Do I have to draw this as a deep beam element to get the reactions, or is there a way to force SAFE to only report reactions at the boundary conditions that I have supplied.

What I have tried doing is setting wall meshes to 1m2 to get a line load, but this doesn't handle my point loads very well since it is throwing them into a pretty large tributary width of wall UDL.

If this is what you want - you need to turn off the setting that applies restraints at wall mesh nodes that are coincident with the edge between two restraints. This will force the mesh to only have supports at the ends of the wall, which may or may not be realistic.

The setting is somewhere in the mesh assignment dialog for the wall mesh, something like "add constraints"

Yes perfect, I found this on the weekend.

In case this thread comes up in a google search later by someone with a similar problem, here is what I did to get the behaviour I wanted (reactions on piles).

Draw in walls from corner to corner. Go into edit>shells>divide and choose 8x1 or whatever spacing you want. Then select all of the walls, Assign>shell>wall auto mesh options and un-check the "Add Restraints on Edge if Corners have Restraints" radio button. Change the mesh to 1ft or something in the advanced setting. Doing this you'll still get a mesh in the wall, just only reactions at the corners of your wall segments.

Only issue I ran into is that, without pattern loading your live loads, any multi-span concrete slabs will give unconservative loads at the foundation.
