Can someone please explain what a volt free contact actually is. Thanks

It is just a switch with no power on it, so that you can include it in your own circuit.
For example a motor running Volt free contact could be connected into a circuit that drives a running lamp.

to add...more commonly referred to a contact of a relay that has no voltagge on its own, but is available to switch a control or power circuit. Also referred to as dry contact or digital output (on or off).

It is also used to diffentiate between a dry contact and a PLC type analog output which has some voltage, which can not be directly used in a control circuit of a diffrerent voltage.

Voltage free or dry contact also differentiates from a solid-state digital output. This can provide system isolation.
