I haven't used the Ram system, but we used an optical system, very rudimentary, to inspect spinnerets made in house. We had three machines, two with what would be called an inspection microscope and one with a TV camera.
On the microscopic machine we had a XY table controlled by stepping motors with measurement and adjustments made with differential micrometers using operator input. We used reticules along with the micrometers to measure C/L distance and circularity of the up to 1280 0.009" holes. We had the same three point measurement for holes used by the Ram system. We had no edge measurement. I like the Ram system where you can put in the limits of the feature.
A Ram system would have fit in our program like a glove.
I would suggest several things. If possible get demonstration of the system using a known particular part, or better yet a visit to distributor for a hands on demonstration. If you get to make the visit be sure to checkout the competency of their technical people. The factory people are usually very good though some of distributor's people leave a lot to be desired.
