I always like vibration as a science and since I am partly retired I have been thinking that troubleshooting problems with meter at hand and knowledge would be a fun way to pass the remaining part of my life. For those individuals who have been there already, my question is how difficult is it for an individual to be established in this field and lets say getting clients in the paper and wood industry, utilities, ski areas etc where heavy production equipment is being operated?

You could ask your question at the vib/alignment/balance forum at reliability-magazine.com

Lots of professional rotating equipment vib consultants are there.
