This involove vibratoin back ground in addtion to Failure Analysis. You should start learning abuot vibratio concept , preventive maintenance and rotating equipment principle.

You could try SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers), or contact one of the marine classification agencies (Lloyds, ABS, etc.). ABS instituted a condition monitoring option (including vibration analysis) for shipboard machinery a few years ago. I know BC (British Columbia) Ferries has been using vibration analysis for condition monitoring, maybe they have some results available.
