I have vendors call on me from time to time and I also get e-mails from people pushing “diagnostic” vibration measuring equipment. One product I've seen on the market is the "Fluke 810 Handheld Vibration Tester". It can supposedly diagnose if there is a bearing issue, unbalance from excessive wear, etc.

Does anyone use devices like these? How accurate are they in terms of diagnosing the issue? I wonder because the machine could (for example) mistake a inadequate support for excessive unbalance. A lot of the (existing) issues I get calls on.....the problem is the support.....not the machine.

Thanks in advance.

I think that if you know enough to question the algorithms you probably know enough to use any fft analyser instead. I'm guessing they are aiming at the monkey see, monkey do, market.

Cheers
