VFD for fan speed control

Hi,
We have a purge fan for a gas/gas heater.The current method to control the flow is to use an inlet box vane control. The client has proposed using a VFD instead. Would this mean that we no longer need the Inlet box vane and hence no actuator to operate it?

Most probably. If you do not need the vane to shut off the fan duct when fan is at standstill.
If you need to shut the duct close when fan is off, you will still need the vane.

And it is sometimes prudent to leave it in place in case you need to revert to it while the VFD is being byoassed for servicing.

If the combustion air is from a different source the inlet vane may have to stay.
