I am looking for a very soft (Shore A hardness 5 or less)
castable, ideally at room temperature, elastomer/rubber with
density in the range of 0.8-1.0 g/cc. The material should have good memory and tear resistance. Silicon-based materials are not accepted.

Use PVC. I.A.S.C., Industrial Arts and supply corp. sells a type that you warm on your stove and pour/inject it into a mold. It stretches a lot before it tears. If you have a tear in it already, it propagates very quickly.
Teknor Apex ( has a new PO-SEBS elastomer called Tekron 96-E0807A-03NT which is Shore A 3. This material is very unique and the only one I know of with such a low hardness. Check their website for contact address.

We run a very soft TPE (0-3 shore A) and could help you. This is not a castable product but could run prototypes and production for you if interested. You may contact me at mikesolutions@aol.com

Respectfully

There are, as Mike says, quite many TPE grades that seams to do the work and since the TPE can be injection molded. I've been using Santopren but I'm not sure if they supply as soft grades as shore 5.

You can do a materials property search on the values you need to bring back technical data for heaps of materials at

Check the following site for soft, castable polyurethanes. They have consistent properties, batch to batch, and tear strength values in the range of 14 pli.
