Can anyone ID this veneer? See attached. Is it hollow core block veneer?
Thanks.

Could be or it could be solid block veneer.

Too thin to be hollow. Looks like solid concrete brick.

is a CMU with a 2 rake scored joints per unit that is laid in running bond. In this case, the scores molded into the block are at

It could be either a veneer unit or a through-wall unit (probably a hollow CMU). That type on construction is usually a single wythe wall and not a veneer construction because of costs.

The units with an even number of scores on the face cause some detailing problems (labor at openings and corners), but eliminate the stacked appearance of 1 or 3 scored patterns. Good suppliers make the needed assortments of corner and half length units on one or two sides, so many different options are possible if the units are laid up-side down.

jim - You will have to do some detective work to determine if it is a single wythe wall, a veneer wall or a combination at corners.

I think Dick is correct. Probably 8" hollow block.

I agree. Dick is correct. I blew the photo up a bit, took a second look and you can see the real mortar joints.

In my neck of the woods, a 2" solid block is a standard product of the local masonry manufacturer. If that were used as a veneer, I would imagine the mortar joints would look the same as in a hollow core block wall. So unless you are able to measure the thickness of the veneer, how would you know whether or not it is hollow?

Superman, with his supersight ...

Jim...you could do a bit of sounding to see if there's a change; or you could shoot an infrared thermogram of the wall which would clearly show the hollow cells in the block if they are there.

Even tapping with a small metallic bar or hammer should show different sounds when solid than with holes ...
