Velocity pump discharge

I am reviewing submersible pumps specifications.

Is it right to check the velocity at the end of the pipe discharge using the design flow rate? (Or this is already cover by the pump manufacturer).

I got a case where the velocity is 5 m/s in a 6'' pump discharge before going into a 10'' (pipe diameter inside the pumping station and rising main).

I read somewhere here that "25 ft/s is a pretty traditional limit for the design of many pump discharges".
 
It's covered by the vendor. They tend to have been making pumps much longer than most of us have been checking specs. What is so important about the discharge velocity at the pump nozzle? Usually the pipe size after it is up to you and bigger than the discharge flange or coupling.

Checking whether the pump will do what you want it to do is more important than this.
