If there's "no display on the sensor" (transmitter indicator) where and how are you getting a reading -5%?
A broken screen/shield might add noise to the signal, but is not likely to affect the reading (Grounding at both ends might, but a broken circuit would carry a ground loop current.
Have you gone through the configuration?
When you remove a wire from the analog input terminal and put a milliamp meter in series, what does the mA meter read? 3.8mA?
