Valve Trim materials

Hello everyone,

We are making engineering spec.now but we want to know what in table 9 as per API 602 can Trim 10 (316SS) be substituted with?
I think that Trim #2 could be possible to replace it.
I appreciate it if somebody responds to my question.

You must have an older API-602. In API-602, February 2005, Trims are covered in Tables 11 & 12 and also addressed in Annex F. Table 12 lists alternative trims for a specified trim.

Trim #2 (304SS) is not necessarily suitable if 316SS is required and is not an acceptable alternative per API-602.

As you mentioned specified Trim#2 can be replaced with Trim #10 in my old version of API602.
Then what kind of trim material can be recommned for replacement of Trim #10?

I must have misunderstood your original question.

I thought you wanted to use trim #2 instead of the specified trim #10 which is not recommended.

Alternant trims would need to be equal or superior to the specified trim AND be suitable for your specific application. Table 12 in API 602, 2005, which might be Table 10 in yours lists 12 & 12A as alternant trims for a specified trim 10.

In your engineering spec., why not just specify the recommended trim for your valve and service and let the vendor quote an alternant if he has a problem with that. Then you have the option to approve or reject the proposed alternant. This way you are in control of what is bought.
