Valve designation

I am new to valves and their designation .
eg . 1" threaded Ball valve with locking device and nace trim will be 1"BCN1.LN
I understand all the letters except for the number 1 in the middle . Sometime I see 1"BCN2.LN . So what does 1 and 2 means and how to determine that when designating a valve .
Second question is about L and N . When to use a locking device on a valve and nace trim ?

The secret decoder is the catalog of whichever valve company's stuff is 'standard' >at your company<. Marketers from other outfits are free to copy that company's nomenclature, or to obfuscate it so as to confuse newbies like you.

I.e., there ain't no standard.
You have to start collecting catalogs CDs DVDs URLs.

I agree with Mike. There is no standard. Each company sets up their own format. For example, a 2" Figure 1502 low torque service plug valve has a part number of 2PV722MFRAN where the 2 represents the 2" size and the rest is unkown to the end user.

For the most part I would contact the supplier and get their catalogs as suggested by Mike. In terms of when to go with locking device and when to go with nace trim ask the supplier as well. No one will know the product better than the manufacturer.
