Hello all, we are shutting down our vacuum distillation unit for a planned turnaround. This is the first time we are shutting down the unit after it was commissioned. I would like to ask from your various experiences which method is more preferable to empty the tower. Can we use the bottom pump? Can we increase the pressure of the tower to let say 1barg before emptying it? Can we just drain it by gravity? etc.

What is the upper process design pressure for this vac tower? You could keep a constant pressure of N2 up to say 85% of UDP at the tower top so that it drains out faster than by gravity flow.
