I have an application where I am using a vane blower inlet to apply a vacumm to light tape (Plastic). I have 4 drums and would like to know what size blower to use.

Do you have any other parameter need to consider, e.g. flowrate, vacuum pressure.. etc?

The vacumm is applied to a 3 sq in area and I currently have a 8 kPa vacumm on it that is insufficient.

what we need to know are as follows:
application of the vacuum plate
external forces or weights resisted by the vacuum plate

assuming the vacuum plate has an infinite number of perforation, the max force that it can hold is
(8*.14504*3=) 3.48 lbs. which is not much

I suspect that the pump is operating close to the max static point based on the information of the small vacuum plate that you are using.

a larger pump will probably not offer a significant increase in holding power of the plastic sheet.

I quess I'd want to know how much force do you want the vacuum to create? I can't tell if this is lifting or what. If lifting; how much acceleration are you providing? These would be helpful!
