Can somebody tell me the UV degradation of Polyethylene and FRP? We are planning to fabricate a tank using Polyethylene. If the Polyethylene tank is served under the sunlight, how long we can use it (How many years)?

Thanks a lot.

If I'm right, it is mentioned in a DIN spec. Unfortunately I don't know the exact spec number.

There is no accurate way to predict how long the PE will last. The stability of the PE depends on the type and amount of stabilizers added, not on the PE itself.

There are accelerated UV tests to get an estimate but they are not accurate enough to tell you how many years it will last.

As well as the stabilizer (hindered phenolics and others), the addition of carbon black helps a lot by blocking the light.
