I'm trying to make a curing station for clear coating fishing lures and I'm running into some issues with getting the UV bulbs to light up. I'm using G23 base 9W 365nm bulbs and I bought Robertson ballasts that are supposed to be for 9W G23 base compact florescent. I have a nail curer that was my original test dummy and that works great. About the only thing different between the nail curer and what I put together is that it looks like there is a transformer as part of the electronics for the nail dryer. I've read some stuff that states that line voltage isn't enough to start a UV lamp and I'm guessing that the transformer is there to boost initial voltage? I put a meter on the UV cure system and the initial voltage is around 140VAC and then drops down to ~75V once the bulb is warmed up and running. If I just hook up my system with the ballast and the bulb I get 120VAC at the fixture and no light.
I've attached a picture of the ballast I'm using and the bulbs. Can any of you electrical guys tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I can do to get the bulbs to actually light up? I'd thought about trying to make a simple transformer out of a thick washer and some wire (can't find one online to go from 120VAC to 140VAC but I tripped my gfci (surprise, I know). Instead of screwing around and trying to burn down my house I figured someone on here who knows more about electronics than me could point me in the right direction.
