For a project that I am working on I was tasked with determining an allowable load for a 100 year old concrete t-section floor system. We had the floor cored to get compressive strengths and the rebar sampled from the concrete joists to get a yield strength. Using the methods prescribed in ACI-562-12 and ACI-214.4 I was able to interpret the results of the compressive tests to get an equivalent f’c for use in calculations. Unfortunately, the methods in ACI-562-12 for determining and equivalent fy from the yield strength tests does not seem to be giving reasonable results. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with using the results of yield strength tests to get an equivalent fy for use in calculations. Please let me know, any assistance would be appreciated.
