Is there a utility that will modify a set of layer names to another set of layer names.

I have a library of several thousand *.dwg files that use my own layer system that is similar to the AIA system, but with structural emphasis. Our office uses a different layer system and our clients may require details to use their layer system. For many standard details, it's a bit of a pain to convert the drawing layers.

Is it possible to use a text file with

oldname1 >delimiter> newname1
oldname2 >delimiter> newname2
...
oldnameXX >delimiter> newnameXX

type of conversion?

The LAYTRANS command may do the job.

Or you can use a script file that would look similar to your example. In a script, a space and a "new line" causes an Enter in Autocad. Format as you would on the command line, something like;

-layer
Rename
Oldname newname
[blank]
[blank]
[repeat above sequence]

Probably is a slicker way to code the script file..

Thanks CarlB... I'll give it a try...
