Dear Gents,

If conducting UT (weld) is only available from side since there's no space on the other side (just like welding end cap with 41.3mm thick).

Is there a code consideration that if only one side is possible then we can consider one side UT check is acceptable?

Thank you.

Did you find something in the Code, whichever that may be, that states you need to do both sides? Might be tough to find....

Pipoy,
It should be noted on the UT Report - "Limited Access" and the decision then goes to the client for acceptance.
In some cases they will accept and in some cases they will make you RT the joint.
Regards,
Shane

Dekdee,

We cannot do RT because of the pipe thickness [(41.3 + Weld reinforcement)x 2] = approx. 92mm total thickness for double wall exposure.

Our source has only 40 curies.

Is there any ASME code interpretation with regard to this matter?

Thank you.
