Hi,

In ASME Section V, 2007 edition, Art. 4 titles "UT examination for welds", while Art. 5 titles "UT examination for materials".
Nonethless, Index at pages 630-631 (2007 edition) reports different titles for Art. 4 and 5;
moreover, in Art. 5 index, pag. 631, it is stated "Basic calibration block (Welds), Art. 5, T-542.2.1". But T-542.2.1 does not exist in 2007 edition.
So, for welds, do I have to use current 2007 edition Cal block indicated in Art. 4, fig. T-434.2.1, or T-542.2.1, which was present in older editions, and is still present in 2007 index edition?

Thank you

Umberto

UnbertoP,

My opinion, Ignore the index. There is no Figure T-542.2.1, pargraph T-542.2.1, paragraph T-542, nor any T-54X paragraph so the index is totally wrong.

As you noted, the UT portions of Section V were re-organized in 2002. Apparently they never updated the index section (not surprising).

Umberto,

It would depend on if you are examining welds in pipe or plate. For a weld in pipe, you would need to use one of the curved "blocks" mentioned in FIG. T-434.3. For welds in plate use FIG. T-434.2.1 NON-PIPING CALIBRATION BLOCKS.

Hope this helps...its what I use to do these examinations.

JR97, nde3rich, Thank you very much!
