i have the following question.

im designing a rounded cap to a quadrangle shaped device with two rounded sides.
_
something like this : (_)

i tried sketching the cross section in the center (symmetrical axis) and a thin quardangle of the same thickness at the side of the device. Preferably I would like to use a curve along the center line and the curved outside of the device as a leader for this shape.

I've tried several different ways and also simplified the geometric restrictions by using straight leaders but can't get the tool to work. any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Jan

Hi,

is this what you want :

If yes, use a swept protrusion with the contour of the base for the path and a closed profile for the section (2 arcs and two thickness segments).

Hi Fred,

wow! that's simple never thought of this -- very elegant solution

You could also apply Crowning to the protrusion.

thanks for the answers...

should have uploaded some pics right away to make my point clearer. here is a pic of the basic shape of the device.

basically I want to create some kind of hood with the same constant thickness of this frame. it should be rounded and preferably tangential to the device. something like this:

as you can see I managed to construct a bluesurf for the center parts. the edges proove to be even more complicated. I'm pretty sure that there must be an easier way to solve this.

once again thanks a lot for your help

Hi,

except for the corners (how should they look) is this wanted:

this looks pretty much like what i wanted except for the flat sides which I would have liked to have more rounded. (like a quarter of a sphere instead of the flat side walls) guess I could live with this solution though....

which tools did you use to achieve this?

Thx,

Jan

duh!

I guess I should have gone to bed earlier yesterday...hehe....not thaaat hard to think of but thanks a lot for leading me the right (well easiest) way...

Hi Jan,

when you have a webkey you might have a look at the
ugs bbsnotes.ugs.com and get into the binaries section.
The thread that might be of interest is:

Lofted protrusion with degenerate surface

Possible you can pick up some ideas
I can't read the file -- lack of V17

I did this with BlueSurf, Protrusion, Replace Face, Round (with Variable Radius) and Thin Wall.
