Using Open Office with SolidWorks

Is it possible to use Open Office with SolidWorks? And if so, can you import tables from Open Office spreadsheets to SolidWorks drawings. I know this works with Excel, but at my office not all work stations have both Excel and SolidWorks. We can't seem to figure out how to import an Open Office spreadsheet or a design sheet into SolidWorks.

I use Open Office on my Linux boxes at home. Open Office does a mostly excellent job of generating Microsoft Office files. I do a lot of stuff with a ski club, and Excel is the spreadsheet format that everybody, including SolidWorks, can import and use.

I would be very surprised if SolidWorks could read Open Office files. I would also be surprised if Open Office would be launched within the SolidWorks environment.

I hate to advocate proprietary software, but you need a sense of perspective. What did you pay for your SolidWorks license? What does it cost for a Microsoft Office license?

Just to clarify, OpenOffice can create an Excel spreadsheet that SolidWorks can later use on a system equipped with Excel. However, almost all of SW's interactions with Excel rely on SolidWorks automating Excel to do things. You won't be able to do Excel-based BOMs or use Design Tables without Excel installed.
