Use STL File for Intermediate Stock in Machining Simulation

I'm using an stl file (output from 1st op simulation) as my stock in a secondary machining operation and I'd like to know the easiest way to import & align the stl in my product. I have tried a couple work arounds that get the job done, but surely there is an easier way.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
