Use of Maximum principal stress and von Mises Stress

May I know when should I use von Mises and maximum principal stress while reporting FEA results.

It depends on the failure theory and thus the type of material that you use. Mises criterion is generally used in case of ductile metals while max principal stress criterion applies to brittle materials.
