Several pertinant criteria that you should specify to insure desired sealing performance and reliability of Kamprofile style gaskets:
1) Confirm and specify groove pitch and depth for the metal carrier. Believe it or not, there are no standards for this, and different manufacturers will use different pitch and depth.
2) Specify adhesive. Generally spray adhesives work better than PSA, as there is a significantly thinner adhesive film.
3) Specify tolerances for the ID and OD. We once had the same part manufacturerd by the same manufacturer with DRAMATIC variations in cross section. We were told by the manufacturer that since we didn't specify a tolerance, they viewed the parts as "in spec".
4) Specify facing material in detail. Don't just leave it as "graphite" or "PTFE".
5) Insure that you vessel flanges are parallel, and machined properly. Develop a specification for initial flange machining and flatness, and procedures for inspecting the flatness and surface finish before the vessel is reassembled during outages.
Good luck. Kamprofiles are great gaskets if they're manufactured properly and used on the right flanges. If not, they can be a disaster.
