I represent a high performance lubric, brand in Mexico, one of our clients upgrade his alquilbencene lubricant to a polialfaolefin (Royal Purple), but now the filters are clogging and the oil pump have continous failures, the compatibility between the oil is 100%, eventhough the equiptment have a complete flush procedure and and overhaul, the debris came back again, is the first time I see this problem, I think the reason could be corrosion inside the lubricant tank or the lubrication pipes and lines, the oil tank is closed so we can not inspect inside, the refrigaration compressor is reciprocant, 400 HP, and uses ammonia, we did an ammonia analysis and it show a lot of cater contamination, I need your expert advise, what kind of analisys reccomend me? Thanks

Have you analysed the debris from the oil? You need to have it taken from the filter and looked at. The size, shape and chemical composition of the particles should be enough to tell you where they are coming from.
I find it hard to belive that this has anything to do with the PAO. My guess is that something else has gone wrong in this system.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.

Thanks Edstainless! Just two questions.
1.- If the corrosion is in the tank, what kind of material or coat do you recommend for the tank replacement?
2.-Do you know an expert laboratory for this kind of analysis?

I really aprecciate your help, and thanks again!

As for tank coatings I would look at epoxy. There are a bunch of different ones, so find a reputable source and ask a lot of questions.
Since surface preperation is so critical for coating adhesion you might find that it is better to build a new tank and have it coated before it is ever exposed to serivce.

You should be able to get help on analysis of the particles in the system from someove who specializes in lubricant wear analysis.
