Hi

I would like to know where I can find the upper and lower transformation temperatures for different carbon steel. Are there tables/charts for that in the code?

Thanks,
Alan

Your best bet is to use ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code, which lists the lower critical transformation temperature for carbon steel base material (this includes material from low carbon to 0.35% by mass). The published value is 1340 deg F.

The minimum austenitizing temperature for carbon steel is 1600 deg F and above depending on carbon content (.35% or lower).

Wailunwu:
The American Society for Metals (ASM) has some very good ref. mat’ls. and ref. books on these general topics. For example, their “Metals Handbook.”
