I am trying to model an unreinforced brick building in RisaFloor but cannot take out the rebar in the boundary zones. When I move the the model over into Risa3D and model it I am given the stresses in the reinforcement. I want to know if there is any way to not have the reinforcement show up, or if I would essentially have to use the loads and just figure out the stresses in an unreinforced wall by hand.

Sounds like Risa knows it should be reinforced, even if you don't.

Try changing the material properties of the steel reinforcing. Set E to like 1 psi and see what happens.

Sounds like the program you selected does not have the capability I wonder what happen when you have building designed in accordance with ACI 530 where unreinforced structures can have steel reinforcement but it cannot be used to resist structural loads.

Maybe it cam handle only a portion of the model codes.

It's an existing building, I'm trying to model it to determine if it can resist the seismic loads and won't need to be reinforced to meet code. (I'm only doing this to prove it to the architect because they are hell bent that nothing should have to be done and I've gone back and forth with them a couple of rounds on it so I'm developing my case calculation wise).

@OHIOMatt That's a good idea. I tried it and I can get the forces out of the model to prove that my brick is taking tension and that's all I really needed I just wanted to see if there was a way to just get rid of it.

@concretemasonry I used ACI530-99 to try and see if it would let me disregard the steel but it still uses it.

I talked to the guy at RISA and he said they're going to look into being able to remove reinforcing in plane.
