We were having discussion on selection of nominal tap voltage rating for the unit transformers. In this context I thought we can benefit from the knowledge and experience of colleagues in this forum.
Synchronous motors can supply reactive power to the grid.
Even if these are not actually meant to support the grid voltage, at least they would not burden the system as they don't draw any VArs from the system.
That being the case, I think having unit transformer no-load voltage rating at nominal tap on secondary shall correspond to the motor rated voltage and not higher, i.e. to say 11kV (and not 11.5kV) in case motor rated voltage is 11kV.
