I am unable to Clone a assembly in NX8. It is not showing up under Assemblies when I have a assembly loaded.
My main task in to create a zip file of a large assembly. I have downloaded UGZIP from this site but yet to load it. I was thinking cloning would be faster way.

Thanks
ET

It can be found at...

Assemblies -> Cloning -> Create Clone Assembly...

And if you can't find it, try using a Role with 'Full Menus'. But even it you hadn't you could have still found it by simply using the 'Command Finder' and entering the term "clone".

Also, make sure the assemblies application is activated: NX start menu -> assemblies should have a check mark next to it. If it is not activated, some assembly functionality will not be available (including cloning).

UGZIP uses the clone function then zips up the resulting files. As long as you get UGZIP set up properly, it should be just as fast or faster than doing it manually.

Actually UGZIP does not use the 'Cloning' function, but rather an NX command-line utility called 'ugpc', the executable for which can be found in the UGII folder of your NX install.

Not directly, but it's very possible that it uses some of the same principles and concepts. After all, we've been providing the command-line utility, 'ugpc.exe', for years, perhaps from as far back as the early to mid-90's, while the 'Clone' function is relatively new, at least with respect to the life of UG/NX, maybe 10 years at the most

Where can I get a copy of UGZIP that will work with NX8. I will try the cloning fixes tomorrow and advise results.

Thanks for the help!

If you search this forum for "UGZIP" you'll find many places where that information has been posted.
