We have a new PM at work that refused to run our project by our company's guidelines and ended up getting is in a pickle. We typically need to issue a set that is a final look by the client to verify that we have picked up all of their comments before we IFC. Instead of providing this set, she had us go straight to IFC stamped drawings. Now the client is demanding their review set. From what I understood (and I could be wrong, that is why I am asking), you cannot remove a stamp from drawings change them and re-issue with a new stamp as a new IFC set. Once something is stamped any revisions to it should be made with clouds and revision dates correct? So legally, if they try to get me to remove my stamp, edit the drawing and then re-issue as if we never did before what do I do? Is this ok or against the law?

Changes are made to stamped drawings all the time, whether its due to client comments, technical error, etc.

You don't go back and remove the stamp, just issue a new set that supersedes the previous set. (Wouldn't it be nice if the IFC set was perfect and there were no such things as addendums or bulletins?)

Yes I know, we typically issue them as revisions. It is being tossed around that we remove the stamp and send them out unstamped as a review set and then put a new stamp and date with any revisions as if we never issued the original stamped set. It just doesn't seem right to be to have two sets floating around that have slight differences and are both stamped and called IFC.

You can remove the stamp from any subsequent sets, but once the original IFC's leave your hands how would you get them back even if you were going to remove the stamp? Its like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube.

You have no way of knowing who has a copy of the original IFC, if they have made copies, etc.

Assuming you know everyone who has a copy and you were able to get those copies back, just toss them and issue a new IFC set that includes the client comments.

If a set of drawings has been Released for Construction under seal, there is nothing wrong with re-issuing it as a Revision without changes and without a seal and a new revision item added "Released for Client Review" or something of that ilk. Because it has been issued under seal doesn't mean that it cannot be re-issued under a different revision mark. The drawing under seal should not be re-issued with the seal removed; the new drawing is under a separate issue.

I normally send out drawings "Released for Construction" as opposed to 'Issued...' Released means that someone else takes the responsibility for issuing them.
