Gordon Brown said the world’s biggest expansion of offshore wind power, costing £75 billion, would create up to 70,000 jobs in Britain by 2020.

More lies.
The article goes on to say that the major wind turbine manufacturers are proving hard to pursuade to build factories in the UK.
It doesn't say that Vesta closed its factories on the Isle of White and Portsmouth.
It doesn't say that the turbines for the offshore wind farm off the Norfolk coast are actually being manufactured in China and that when problems developed with the welds that Chinese welders were flown in to fix the problem.
It doesn't say that the wind turbine project was co-ordinated in Holland.
The net benefit to the UK work force from this, the largest European Wind Farm project was pretty abysmal.

In another report supporters of windfarms, responding to criticism that wind is uncertain, claimed that there is always a wind blowing somewhere in the UK.... what does that mean? we need mobile wind farms or we need to multiply up our wind generating capacity in order to ensure we can meet demand at all times?

Gentlemen,

I do not believe that 70,000 uk jobs will be created. According to uk national radio the figure came from a government report of 2-3 years ago which was in turn based on some academic report of 2-3 years earlier. There appears to be no recognition of the practicalities of creating uk jobs.

Just another case of bad research leading to bad decisions.
