I have a vessel 36" OD 1200 MAWP w/ 1/8" Corrosion. The customer wants a 2" coupling, but with the corrosion it is not exempt from reinforcement. Is it possible to make the opening in the shell 2-1/8" and boss on the coupling to make it exempt. We would prefer not to use a repad.

Recommended for you

maybe a weld end half coupling

you can get any length and the I.D. of opening is around 2".

don't quote me on the id, but i think it's right

humbubble, as your corroded, finished opening would be 2 3/8, this seems like it would be acceptable to me. However, I would prefer to insert the coupling. Is your vessel wall too thick to permit this?

Regards,

Mike

2" Weld-O'Let. Integrally reinforced, no further reinforcing required [assuming a flull-size weld is applied]

"..this seems like it would be acceptable to me", rather, "this seems to me like it would be acceptable".

After posting I also realized a 2" coupling inserted may not meet UG-36 exemption. Apologies
