Why does UG-34 not reference UW-13.2 for additional weld configurations. Are you allowed to use either of the corner joint configurations in these two sections for unstayed flat heads?

ENG2194, not sure what you are asking. UW-34 UG-34 refers welding to UW-13 and certain figures specifically reference UW-13.2.

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

The problem is that Fig. UW-13.2 Sketches r and s refer to UW-13UG-34 for flat head thickness. UW-13UG-34 has no sketch for this configuration, giving no value for C. In the past I have used .33 as per sketch h. I have asked ASME about this back in April...no word yet. Record 19-784.

You can use sketches r and s but must follow the stipulations in UW-13 (f).

Referring to 2017 Edition...maybe this was revised for 2019?

Sketches (r) & (s) and related material formerly occupied Mandatory Appendix 28 specfic to box headers, and provided alternate weld details to UW-13.2. Apparently now can be applied to other constructions.

It appears that Fig. UG-34 was not updated accordingly. I don't see why Fig UG-34 sketch (h) could not be applied.

Please keep us posted on your interpretation.

Regards,

Mike
