We design tanks based on general conditions supplied by our customer.
Basic Section VIII tanks with some nozzles.
My AI just recently requested a UG-22 checklist.
I am never provided with these "supplementary" conditions.
What do i tell my AI?
Am I responsible for UG-22 loadings if they are not provided to me?
Am i required to request them?

You, as the Designer, needs to consider the loading in UG-22. This is fundamental to the design adequacy for any Section VIII, Div 1 stamped pressure vessel.

How you consider is based on what is described in your Quality Manual - this activity can be outsourced under your control or by use of a check sheet or computer software. All it means is that you considered the loads in design.

What if my customer does not have information relative to performing the points listed under UG-22?

What about tank manufacturers that fabricate and sell off the shelf Sect VIII stamped tanks for unknown end applications?

JAYDEE23, you should, of course, include all reasonable, relevant loadings per UG-22. You should probably not invent loadings that are more severe than actual or are unrealistic. Examples might be seismic loading and wind loading to a standard of your choice. Some might be disregarded, for example wind loading on horizontal vessels is usually negligable.

In a perfect world, the buyer would inform you of all applicable loadings. This rarely happens.

I suspect that your AI is looking for some kind of statement that you have considered UG-22 loadings, even if only informally. I doubt he is looking for anything more than that, i.e the actual calculations.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

SnTMan,
Yes. The AI was not pushing hard for it, just like you said, looking for a statement of consideration. I just have an issue filling out a UG-22 checklist when the reality is i dont have the data required. I suppose requesting it is all i can do.
