U-tube heat exchanger enquiry

Hi all,

I have a problem with designing a heat exchanging system. Currently, I am planning to use a U-tube HEX (2 passes) to heat up the feed by using steam. What's my major concern is overheating my feed as I am using steam (1.5bar) as my heating source. It is not a turbulence flow yet rather it is in the transition state. I would like to ask if it is possible to overheat my feed at the moment where the steam begin the heat exchange with the feed?

That is entirely possible. Depending on the conditions of the Steam as well as its respective flow rate. "overheat" is a pretty generic description, what temperature is your overheat limit? and what temperature is the steam? After you have this you will need to calculate both your steady state condition as well as your dynamic response conditions. Dynamic being a little more challenging since you have a time component.

In reality you need to look at flows and U factors. You may get an approach that is as close as 10F.
So if your steam is hotter than you want your feed you should temper the steam first.
