U stamp with NB number

What is anybody's position about getting a 30,000 gallon propane tank that has a U stamp but no National Board number and no Manufacturer's Data sheet. I know my position but what is yours?

Does the name plate look correct?
No data sheet because the producer is out of business?
I have a serious twitch developing when I think about this.
More unanswered questions than are good.

it's an ASME vessel and legal Mfd. no registration w/NB is up to the customer-user and the Jurisdiction and Insurance Co to accept it.
Some States will accept it... good luck...

chicopee, I'd be far less concerned about lack of NB than about lack of datasheet.

There is so much the nameplate doesn't tell you.

If I couldn't contact the mfr and get the U-1 and the shop dwg, I wouldn't put ANYTHING hazardous in it, especially propane. I have seen several BLEVE's - Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosions - on film. They look like small atomic explosions, complete with is nice mushroom cloud.

FWIW the US Air Force's MOAB is a BLEVE. The military calls it a FAE - fuel air explosion. 30K gallons of propane will be about 3X the explosive power of a MOAB.

I'll find out more about this tank when I get back in about two weeks. This tank is being proposed by a major distributor and I am quiet sure that their insurance carrier will be opposed to selling that tank.
