What is the design code for the design of steel "U-Channel" (like the stuff you see supporting stop signs)?

Any web references would also be appreciated.

I think a stop sign would have to meet AASHTO's Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires and Traffic Signals. For non transportaion applictions, I would agree with the AISI Cold Formed Steel Design Manual.

If you stop and look at most 'local' sign posts, they are either 2" galv. pipe or green painted metal fence poles.

Some of the stop signs around here are supported on "hat sections".
